    Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument - Arizona

    What to do if you have little time : Lava Flow Trail

    Sunset Crater is an old volcano.

    Like all National Monuments, a contribution is requested at the entrance to the park. It is $ 20 per vehicle. If you have the "America the beautiful" pass, access is included.

    Lava Flow Trail

    This loop of only 1 mile winds through old lava flows. From this trail you have good views of the craters. On the way, we leave the concrete path to take the gravel path.

     

    Access : from Flagstaff, take US89 north until you see signs for Sunset Crater. The Lava Flow Trail parking is located 3.5 miles after leaving the US89.

    A few hundred yards before the Lava Flow Trail, you will see a parking lot along the road. It gives access to another lava field. A small loop allows to walk amid the lava.

    • Travelodge - Flagstaff : classic hotel of a great chain. Spacious, comfortable, clean. Reasonable rate ($ 79 the room for 4 in September 2014).
