Little Painted Desert - Arizona
What to do if you have little time : drive along the rim and stop at viewpoints
Warning : not to be confused with Painted Desert located in Petrified Forest National Park. Little Painted Desert is not a national nor a state park.
As often in Indian territory, the site is very dirty. As you arrive, you'll see garbage, plastic bottles, pieces of glass lying around everywhere.
The viewpoints are really spectacular and worth seeing. There are high chances that you will be alone there. For best photo results, it is best to avoid the visit of LPD when the sun is at its highest. Pictures of our gallery were made around 1 pm and do not do justice to this canyon.

It does not really seem to have a trail down into the canyon, although in places we guess some traces of trails and remains of wooden steps. We were satisfied enough with the views from the rim of the canyon and it is probably here that the views are best.
Access : take exit 257 on I40 and follow the AZ87 northward for 13,8 miles. Turn left to the canyon.
