    Crested Butte CR12 - Colorado

What to do if you have little time : it's really worth taking the time

Fall is a beautiful time to visit Colorado in general and this area in particular.

If you visit Colorado in fall, you'll probably see many roads like this one, but CR12 is one of the most beautiful with Flat Top Scenic Byway which is much longer.

This track, 31 miles long (50 kms), from CO133 to the town of Crested Butte, is absolutely beautiful in fall. It's a delight for the eyes and for photographers. By cons, at this time, it is very busy and you see a lot of cars. The main attraction are the aspens in white trunks and foliage that turns yellow.

Access : from Glenwood Springs on I70, take road 82 south for 11.8 miles and then turn right to Carbondale and CO133. Continue on CO133 for 43.4 miles and turn left on CR12 to Crested Butte.

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Erikson Springs Campground - CR12 : in the forest, only equipped with dry toilets. The tent sites still have a table and a barbecue. Very quiet and dark at night.
