In this page, you will find informations and advices we can give, based on our experience

    Sedona - Arizona

What to do if you have little time : West Fork of Oak Creek Trail

Tip : because of the weather conditions (high heat between 95 104 degrees), provide plenty of water.

West Fork of Oak Creek Trail

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hike 3,1 miles one way - 1 hour

    Time to spendHalf a day

    Fee

     9$ for the car park

Nice walk along the cliff, largely under the trees and along the river. It is rather refreshing.

Access : from Sedona, take US89A North about 10 miles. Parking (9$ in 2012) is on the left.

    Crescent Moon - Cathedral Rock

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hike2,7 miles one way - 1h30

    Time to spendHalf a day

    Fee

     9$ for the car park

This hike goes up to Cathedral Rock from where the view over Sedona and the surrounding Valley is nice. The hike passes on Red Rock Crossing Trail. At the beginning of the hike you have to cross a river (very little water) ans continue left. The beginning of the hike is pretty easy, but the last 0.5 mile is more difficult with an elevation gain of 650 feet. It is often necessary to use your hands to move forward.

Access : from Sedona, take US89A South for 4,5 miles and turn left on Red Rock Loop Road for  1,8 miles and again left on Chavez Ranch Road for 0,4 miles (0,6 km) and finally right on Red Rock Crossing Road for 0,5 miles to the parking (9$ in 2012).

    Slide Rock State Park

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hikeNo hike

Time to spend1 to 2 hours

    Fee

    20$ in 2012

Very touristic site and very popular with American in the weekend. It is possible to swim, which explains the large crowds. For a little quiet, you must go back up the river and settled on the banks of the river. Nevertheless, the site is worth because the rock is very colorful and the water (fresh) transparent.

Access : 6,9 miles North of Sedona on US89A. The parking is very expansive !!! (20$ in 2012).

    Chimney Rock

Place to visit if you're in the area

Length and duration of the hikeLoop of 1 mile - 30 minutes

    Time to spend1 hour

    Fee

    Free

This short hike is not of a great interest. The trail is Lower Chimney Rock Trail. The trail circles  Chimney Rock. The only good point is the view after reaching the highest point of the hike.

Access : from Sedona, take US89A South for 3,5 miles and turn right on Dry Creek Road for 0,5 mile. Turn right again on Thunder Mountain Road for 0,6 miles (1 km). Access to the parking (free) is on the left.

    Oak Creek Vista

Place to visit if you're in the area

Length and duration of the hikeNo hike

    Time to spend15 minutes

    Fee

    Free

Viewpoint on the green valley of Sedona. No great interest, but as it's on the road to Flagstaff and Grand Canyon, it would be a shame to miss it especially since it is free.

Access : 15,5 miles North of Sedona on US89A right after a series of 4 or 5 laces.

    To see around

    • Flagstaff
    • Sunset Crater
    • Route 66

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Cave Springs Campground : located north of Sedona on US89A North. 18$ per tent in 2012. The campground is equipped with basic restrooms with no sink. Showers are expansive : 4 $. The sites are large and shady.
