What to do if you have little time : Route 24

There are mythical routes in the West like Route 66. But there are others, less renowned, whose beauty has no equal. Route 24, which is known as Scenic Drive, is one of them. The landscapes are breathtaking.

Highway 24 between east exit of Capitol Reef and Hanksville, goes through lunar landscapes. Everything is gray. We could really believe we are on the moon. It's a big contrast with the red / orange colors of Capitol Reef.

Access : exit Capitol Reef to the east and drive up to Hanksville.

Lodging

We have tested :

Goblin Valley State Park - Campground : very pleasant campsite and very calm. Delimited ground for tents with shelter and camping table. Better to be there in dry weather: during our stay in September 2013, the pitches were muddy.
Torrey - Days Inn : good hotel with a pool, spa and continental breakfast.

Hanksville - Duke's Slickrock Campground & RV : campground well equiped with a grassy area for the tents. 22$ tent site in april 2022.
