    Little Egypt - Utah

What to do if you have little time : a short hike in the middle of the rock formations

Little Egypt is one of those sites not very popular, although access to it is relatively easy by car. Proximity with Goblin Valley State Park probably explains the low attendance. During our visit in September 2013, we were alone.

There is no real hike to do in Little Egypt. You just have to walk among the rocks as long as you want.

Access : in Hanksville, from the intersection of highways 24 and 95, take Highway 95 south for 20,5 miles to a track on the right. From the beginning of the track you will see three signs : one showing " 14000 " , the other " Little Egypt Loop" and the third giving the distances for " North Wash" , "Eagle Bench " and " Crescent Creek ". If you see that, you are on the right track. Drive for 1300 feet before turning left onto this track for about 1.5 miles or until the sign showing the access to geological site. It is then necessary to park on the side of the road and walk a few meters to find amid the rock formations !

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Goblin Valley State Park - Campground : very pleasant campsite and very calm. Delimited ground for tents with shelter and camping table. Better to be there in dry weather: during our stay in September 2013, the pitches were muddy.
    • Hanksville - Duke's Slickrock Campground & RV :  campground well equiped with a grassy area for the tents. 22$ tent site in april 2022.
