Bruneau Dunes Desert State Park - Idaho

What to do if you have little time : Bruneau Dunes

We were impatient to discover Idaho. Our disappointment was even greater. Some of the sites we visited would have everything to please, especially those on the Snake River. Unfortunately, these sites are operated at the extreme for  hydraulic power purpose, which disfigures Idaho.

The access to Bruneau Dunes is 5$ (2012).

A small park of no interest with only 3 sand dunes and a lake! During our visit in June 2012, the visitor's center and observatory were closed.

Access : 20 miles south of Mountain Home. Take 51 south and 78 to the east and finally Bruneau Sand Dunes Road.

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Twin Falls - KOA Campground sur la Highway 93 : nice camground with a pool, game room, lounge and a restaurant. Tent sites are a little tight, but big enough for 2 tents. Only a few sites are shaded. The ground is covered of a beautiful green grass.

    • Mountain Home - KOA campground : restrooms are small but very clean. Tent sites are spacious and shaded. However, the campground is very noisy because of the trains passing close to it.
