    Portland's Japanese Garden - Oregon

What to do if you have little time : japanese garden

Portland is probably a very nice city. We only stayed a few short hours to visit downtown but the city seems very rich culturally. As for the Japanese garden, allow at least two hours.

Nice Japanese garden, well landscaped and maintained. Some maples are absolutely beautiful. It is to photograph a particular tree (see the first photo below) that we wanted to visit this garden. A building houses a fine collection of bonzais.

Access : from highway 405, take exit 2B to West Burnside. Drive west on West Burnside for 1,2 miles. Then turn left on SW Tichner Drive. At the first intersection, turn right on SW Kingston avenue until you reach the garden. Park on the roadside on the fee parking lots ($1,60 for one hour and $6,40 a day). There is a fee to enter the garden : $9,50 per person in may 2015.

    • Waterfalls of the  Columbia River Gorge
    • Pacific Coast
    • Cedar Grist Mill (Washington)

    Lodging

Accommodation (hotels and motels of all kinds) are of course numerous in Portland. We have tested :

    • Econolodge : classic motel like many others. The rate for one night on saturday is also classic ($89 in may 2015).
    • Super 8 Portland Airport : classic motel. Well located, not far from the airport. Free shuttles to the airport.
    • Powell Motel : quaint hotel, not very clean and not very welcoming. Room with kitchenette. At first glance the area seems seedy but we had no problem. $ 75 a night on a friday night in June 2015.
