In this page, you will find informations and advices we can give, based on our experience

    Moeraki Boulders - South Island

One wonders how these round rocks got there. Their presence here, on this small stretch of beach, sparks all kinds of imaginations and questions. Could it be extraterrestrials who've come to lay their eggs here? Who knows?

Be sure to check the tides before you arrive: at high tide, the boulders will be submerged.

It must be so much more beautiful under the sun! Our visit to this spot on the east coast was somewhat marred by rain. Even so, we were able to see just how big these boulders are out of nowhere.

From the parking lot and visitor center, simply walk down to the beach and reach the balls. Some are broken in two, others stuck in the cliffs, some smooth, others cracked.

Access: 16 km north of Dunedin.

    Lodging

We were just passing through. We didn't test any nearby accommodation.
