Serra da Estrela Natural Park - Portugal
What to do if you have little time : Torre
Serra da Estrela Natural Park is the natural area that we liked the most in Portugal, far in front of the Peneda GeresNational Park. Estrela contains the highest point of Portugal, Torre, at 6560 feet above sea level. Some villages, in Estrela or on the edge of the park, are particularly pretty like Piodao. Estrela is a place where you can make beautiful hikes, along lakes or by sinking in the glacial valleys like that of Zezere.
We did the "6 lakes hike" from Lake Comprida dam. The trail is easy and slightly uphill to Lake Conchos, known for its "hole" in which the water flows. All along, the landscape is rather pleasant. From Lake Conchos, it gets complicated because there is no path. It is necessary to continue in rather high scrub and it requires to have a GPS with the track. This hike is 6,8 miles.
