Eggs Garden - New Mexico

What to do if you have little time : Eggs garden.

Eggs Garden is a relatively unknown place because it is totally eclipsed by its neighbor Bisti Badlands. It is not without interest : as the name suggests, the stones here look like round eggs.

In summer, it is very hot here and when the sky is completely clear, the light is intense because of the very white ground. Do not forget the sunglasses.

The hike to Eggs Garden is not very long or complicated. But to get there, there is no delimitated path and you have to go up and down small hillocks. The area of the "eggs" is not very big but it is full of hundreds of eggs for some partially buried watched by strange creatures like "fish with triangular head"!

Access : from Bisti Badlands main car park, continue northbound for 0.8 mile and park. On foot, take the South East direction after passing under a fence.

Lodging

It's quite hard to find a campground in Farmington. So you need to go to Bloomfield to find one. We have tested :

Bloomfield - Desert Rose Resort : not very shaded campground, quite noisy but well equipped : pool, spa, laundries, wifi. 30$ per site in september 2014.

Wild camping on Bisti Badlands car park : the best to discover the site and to be there at sunrise and sunset.

Farmington - Rodeway Inn : classic but old fashioned hotel. Breakfast included. 69$ per room for 4 in september 2017. Back to this hotel in April 2022: 65$ for 2 people. It has deteriorated again: the common areas are very dirty, the linen hardly clean or stained, not friendly reception.
Farmington - Brentwood Inn : very good hotel with breakfast. 75$ the room for 2 persons in April 2022.
