Crater Lake National Park,
National Creek Falls - Oregon
What to do if you have little time : Crater Lake
Only National Park in Oregon, Crater is also th deepest Lake in the USA. This lake, created by the explosion of a volcano, was then filled with rainwater. The water of the lake is of an impressive deep blue. To the west, we can see Wizard Island towards which boat trips are organized.
Snow falls are so important at Crater Lake, that even in june some roads are still closed to traffic.
Like all National Parks, a fee is requested at entrance. It's 30$ per vehicle in winter and 20$ per vehicle in summer. If you have the "America the Beautiful" pass, access is included.
Crater Lake
Depending on wish
At least half a day
10$ par vehicle
In june 2010 and june 2015, because of the remaining snom, some roads were closed. So we just made photo stops along the Rim Drive to Cloudcap. The place is very popular and busy.
Access : we can access Crater Lake from North or South. From North and Hwy 138, take the north entrance road. From South and Highway 62, take the Munson Valley Road and the Rim Drive.
National Creek Falls
After a 0.5 mile walk in the forest, National Creek Falls appears on the left. However to enjoy a better clear view of the waterfall, you have to cross the river. From here we have a beautiful view of this magnificent waterfall. Prefer late afternoon because the waterfall is in full sunlight in the day.
Access : from the small town of Prospect, take highway 62 north for 12.5 miles. At the intersection with highway 230, turn left on highway 230, towards Diamond Lake and Bend. Continue straight for 6 miles and turn right on NF 6530 for 1.3 miles. At an intersection, take the road to the left for 2.4 miles. Then take right towards National Creek Falls.
