Tromso is known as the Capital of the Northern Lights. Located north of the Arctic Circle, the city enjoys a rather mild climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. Tromso is a pleasant city with many places to visit, including the Arctic Cathedral and the Fjellheisen cable car.

From here, you can reach the island of Kvaloya via the Sandnessund Bridge.

In this part of the world, you can observe the midnight sun (the sun skims the horizon but does not set) between mid-May and the end of July. On the contrary, between the end of November and mid-January, you can observe the polar night (the sun is close to the horizon but does not rise).

During our stay from October 22 to November 5, 2022, it was light from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, which allowed us to walk around during the day.

Fjellheisen Cable Car

The Fjellheisen cable car climbs 420 meters to Storsteinen. The view of Tromso is magnificent, especially at sunset when the city lights come on.

Admission fee: about 35 euros per person in 2022.

The Arctic Cathedral, built in 1965, is very original with its triangular shape. The stained glass window is quite impressive.

Entrance fee: 5 euros per person in 2022.

Lodging

We have tested :

House rental - Polarvegen Street in Tromso : house for 10 persons, 4 bedrooms, living room, kitchen. All comfort at 10 minutes from the airport.

Lauklines - Kvaloya Island : comfortable chalet for 6 persons on the edge of a fjord, fitted kitchen, 3 bedrooms (1 bedroom for 1 person, 1 bedroom for 2 persons and 1 bedroom for 3 persons), pleasant living room.
