What to do if you have little time : Great Sand Dunes
This is high sand dunes at the foot of Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
With the sand and if it's windy, protect your cameras.
Like every National Parks, a fee is required at the entrance of the park. It's 25$ per vehicle. If you have the pass "America the beautiful", access is included.

Just before reaching the dunes, there is a kind of river to cross. It is not deep but sometimes the wind backs the waves. Climbing the dunes is not easy. The sand is fine and there is a lot of wind. Plan a windbreaker.
Access : from Alamosa, take Highway 160 east and then 150 north.
