Flat Top Scenic Byway - Colorado
What to do if you have little time : this track is 80 miles long (130 kms). So you need time to explore.
Fall is a beautiful time to visit Colorado in general and this area in particular.
If you visit Colorado in fall, don't miss one of these tracks, easily accessible with e passenger car. Flat Top Scenic Byway is one of the most beautiful we had to drive on, with the CR12 in Crested Butte.
This track, easy, is 80 miles long (130 kms). You must plan time for travel. It took us four hours counting the numerous photo stops. We traveled in a west-east direction (Meeker to Yampa). It was already dark when we got out of this track and we had great difficulty in finding a place to sleep. There are quite a few campsites along the trail, but these are very basic. We did not find any accommodation in Yampa and we drove 56 more miles (90 kms) to the town of Eagle on I70 to find a hotel.
Advice : provide enough fuel.

Free
There is no hiking to do on this track. You just drive and stop whenever it is necessary to enjoy the views. And opportunities abound. As always, late afternoon offers the best light and autumn promotes the explosion of colors on the trees. It's just beautiful.
Access : from I70, exit 90 for Rifle. Follow CO13 northward for 43.5 miles to Meeker. Put gas in your car in Meeker. Then take the scenic Byway Flat Top or CR8 east.
