In this page, you will find informations and advices we can give, based on our experience

    Arches National Park - Utah

What to do if you have little time : Delicate Arch

Advice : it's usually very hot and dry (95° to 104°) in summer. We have already seen a storm at the Arches NP. You must be very careful because there are torrents of mud going down the slopes, which can be dangerous.

Like all national parks, a contribution is requested at the entrance to the park. It is $30 per vehicle. If you have the "America the beautiful" pass, access is included.

However, be careful, because since January 1, 2022, the pass or the park entrance fee is no longer sufficient to enter the Arches National Park. From now on, in order to fight against the very high number of visitors, to visit the park between April and October from 6am to 5pm, you have to book your place 3 months in advance (for example in January for April) and specify the entry time (!!!). The registration (called Timed entry ticket) is done on the recreation.gov website (direct link here) and costs 2$ per day. The registration is valid for the vehicle, no matter how many people are in the car.

We recommend you to spend at least 2 days to the visit of the park.

    Delicate Arch
    Double O Arch
    Balanced Rock
    Park Avenue
    Skyline Arch
    Sand Dune Arch
Double Arch, North et South Windows, Turret Arch

    Delicate Arch

    Place not to miss

Length and duration of the hike1,5 miles one way

Time to spend2 to 3 hours at sunset

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

It's the main attraction of the park. There are 2 ways to discover it:

    • the first is the easier because the hike is only 0,5 mile round trip. We can see the arch from a viewpoint. Unfortunatly this hike leaves us hungry because we see the arch from a distance.

Access : from the park entrance, drive on the main road, pass Balanced Rock and continue straight for 2,8 miles. Turn right onto the Delicate Arch Road. After 1.2 miles we reach the Wolfe Ranch parking, trailhead which goes up to Delicate Arch. Continue on the road after the Wolfe Ranch parking for 1 mile to the viewpoint car park.

    • Path leading to the arch : this is the solution we prefer. It is also the most difficult solution because the walk, although short (3 miles round trip) has an important elevation gain in a portion (480 feet). Moreover, the 330 feet before arriving at the arch are not advised for those who have dizziness. It is preferable to go there for the sunset because the heat will be less important and the light will be much more beautiful and will give an orange color to the arch. At this time, do not expect to be alone, the attendance is indeed important !

Access : park at "Wolfe Ranch" (see access above) where is the trailhead.

    Double O' Arch

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hike2,1 miles one way

    Time to spend3 hours

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

It is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the park as it allows to discover several arches : Landscape Arch, Wall Arch and Double O'Arch. The 4,2 miles round trip trail present no difficulty until Landscape Arch. This arch is one of the most beautiful and longest with a length of 330 feet. A few years ago, a trail allowed to pass under the arch but due to the fragility of it and for security reasons, this trail is no longer accessible. From Wall Arch, some parts of the trail are more climbing with some portions on thin strips of rocks. This second part is therefore not recommended for persons prone to vertigo.

Access : from the entrance of the park, just take the main road of the park (Arches Scenic Drive) until the end. In all, from Moab, count 23 miles or 45 minutes by road.

Double Arch, North and South Windows, Turret Arch

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hike0,5 mile and 0,4 mile one way

    Time to spend 2 hours

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

These 4 arches are also very nice. Double Arch being the most impressive of the 4.

Access to these arches is from the same parking lot. A first easy trail of 1 mile round trip allows to see the 2 Windows and Turret. A second 0,8 mile round trip trail, also easy, leads to Double Arch.

Access : from the entrance of the park, take the main road (Arches Scenic Drive). Just after passing Balanced Rock, turn right on Windows Road until the end.

    Balanced Rock

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hikeLoop of 0,3 mile

    Time to spend1 hour

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

Balanced Rock is not an arch. It is nevertheless a surprising rock formation which seems to defy the laws of gravity. To do at sunset preferably from the hill on the other side of the road. This viewpoint gives a more distant view and a little higher than the view from the easy loop trail of 0,3 mile that surrounds Balanced Rock.

Access : from the park entrance, take the main road of the park (Arches Scenic Drive) to Balanced Rock. It is unmistakable on your right.

    Park Avenue

    Place worth a visit

Length and duration of the hike1 mile one way

Time to spend1 to 2 hours

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

This part of the park starts with a viewpoint. An easy path of 2 miles round trip leads then to Courthouse Towers. The most interesting section is the one that starts at about the half of the path to Couthouse Towers.

Access : from the park entrance, take the main road of the park (Arches Scenic Drive). After 1,9 miles, the parking will be on your left.

    Skyline Arch

Place to visit if you're in the area

Length and duration of the hike0,2 mile one way

Time to spend15 to 30 minutes

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

Small arch. The trail, de 0,4 mile round trip, is easy although sandy.

Access : from the park entrance, take the main road of the park (Arches Scenic Drive). After 17 miles, the parking is on the right.

    Sand Dune Arch

Place to visit if you're in the area

Length and duration of the hike0,15 mile one way

Time to spend15 to 30 minutes

    Fee

    $25 per vehicle

Small arch that doesn't detach from the rocks surrounding it. The sandy path to the arch is easy and 0,3 mile long round trip.

Access : from the park entrance, take the main road of the park (Arches Scenic Drive). After  16 miles, the parking is on the right.
