House on Fire Ruin - Utah

What to do if you have little time : House on Fire Ruin

House on Fire Ruin were the 2nd ruins we visited after the 10th trip to the American West. They are perfectly well preserved. Known for its "cap that catches fire", plan to be there on a sunny day and at the end of the afternoon. Unfortunately, during our visit, the sky was overcast and we did not have beautiful colors for the "flames".

These ruins are located in the Cedar Mesa area and are submitted to a fee of $2 per person.

The walk, which is 2,4 miles round trip, is easy. The walk follows a wash and alternates between sand and slickrock. After 1,2 miles, the ruins are on the right slightly higher.

Access : from Blanding City, take 191 south for 4 miles, then UT95N west for 19.4 miles. Follow the track on the right. It is full of pebbles and risky for the tires but without difficulty. Park at the wash level.
