    Snow Canyon State Park - Utah

    What to do if you have little time : Petrified Dunes

    We are here in Southern Utah and close to Nevada. So, it's very hot.

    Snow Canyon is a State Park. Entrance fee: $ 6 per vehicle (up to 8 people)

    We recommend you to dedicate a day to the visit of Snow Canyon.

    Beautiful hike of 1 mile roundtrip (according to the brochure of the park) without much difficulty if not some steep climbs in places. You can cross the dunes of the famous Navajo Sandstone.

     

    Access : access to Snow Canyon is by Highway 18 north of of St. George. Take then the North Snow Canyon Parkway and Route 8 which cross Snow Canyon from south to north. Every trailhead are from parkings located on Route 8.

    Hike of no real interest unless geology is your passion. In fact, walking is on a path surrounded in some place by black rocks, remains of a volcanic eruption. Some Lava tubes (holes in the lava where many animals refuge) embellish the walk.

    Short hike of 0,6 mile roundtrip that leads to a strip of sand dunes clustered in a few tens of meters wide.

     

    Access : parking along road 8, about 1 mile after the south toll station of the park.

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Snow Canyon Campground : located inside the park. Campsites are large and there is a pit for campfire. Lavatories are clean. Very little shade. $16 for the entry fee and the campsite.
