    Masaï-Mara National Reserve - Kenya

    Monkeys and other animals

The Masai Mara National Reserve is located in southwestern Kenya on the border with Tanzania. With its 1,500 km² of savanna, rivers and small valleys, it is home to a great diversity of animals.

Those trips were organized with Melting Pot Safaris, managed by Tony Crocetta, wildlife photographer, and Simon Chebon, Kenyan guide. Well located in the Masai Mara National Reserve, we are only a 5 minute drive from the land of the animals. Here, it is the men who are locked in their vehicle !

Specialized in photo safaris, the structure is oriented towards photographers : guides trained to position themselves well for the photos, possibility of adapting balls on the doors, been bags,... The safaris take place from 6:30 am to 12:00 am and from 4:00 pm to sunset (possibility of one full day during the week). Unforgettable stays so much the variety of the photographed animals is big.

Our first visit to the Masaï-Mara was in September 2021 and our second in April 2023. The two periods are very different. On the one hand, the landscape is transformed: golden, dry, roasted grass in September, green and fat in April, while the weather is more humid. On the other hand, the distribution of animals is not the same: large herds of herbivores, many cheetahs in September after the return of these groups from Tanzania; few herbivores, few cheetahs, many elephants in April.

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Melting Pot Bush Camp : located on the banks of the Mara River, in the Masaï-Mara Reserve, the camp is made up of about ten tents and can accommodate about twenty people, which gives it a family atmosphere. The tents are very well equipped with real beds, a small bathroom corner (without water supply: basin and thermos of hot water and pitcher of cold water) with dry toilet (some flush toilets are available in the camp) and adjoining hot shower outside under the trees. Electricity in the tents is cut off between about 10:30 pm and 5:30 am. We were in the Zebra room facing the river and the hippos ! The camp also includes a dining tent with a large table where all the safari participants eat together and they eat very well (buffet). Next to it is a bar tent with armchairs and low tables. A nice little corner for the aperitif! Electrical plugs are available to recharge the batteries of cameras, phones, computers...
