    Leprechaun Canyon - Utah

What to do if you have little time : Leprechaun Canyon

Leprechaun Canyon is a slot canyon very little used because off the usual circuits. It is however very easy to access and the hike presents no difficulty, except walking in sand.

This short hike of about 2,5 miles round trip, without any difference in altitude, begins in a sandy wash dotted with tall bamboo style grass. Then you arrive in front of 2 canyons. The one on the left is blocked by a rock. The one on the right is also blocked by a block of stone but you can go around it by going up on the slickrock. From the top, we see the area blocked by the stone that looks very narrow. Then you walk in the pink-hued canyon that is gradually narrowing. Finally, the progression is possible only by walking on the side and without backpack, but you will not go far because it is really very narrow and it is dark.

Access : from Hanksville, take Highway 95 South for 28.1 miles then turn left. The car park is immediately there, almost on the roadside.

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Goblin Valley State Park - Campground : very pleasant campsite and very calm. Delimited ground for tents with shelter and camping table. Better to be there in dry weather: during our stay in September 2013, the pitches were muddy.
    • Hanksville - Duke's Slickrock Campground & RV :  campground well equiped with a grassy area for the tents. 22$ tent site in april 2022.
