Great Sand Dunes National Park - Colorado

What to do if you have little time : Great Sand Dunes

This is high sand dunes at the foot of Sangre De Cristo Mountains.

With the sand and if it's windy, protect your cameras.

Like every National Parks, a fee is required at the entrance of the park. It's 25$ per vehicle. If you have the pass "America the beautiful", access is included.

Just before reaching the dunes, there is a kind of river to cross. It is not deep but sometimes the wind backs the waves. Climbing the dunes is not easy. The sand is fine and there is a lot of wind. Plan a windbreaker.

Access : from Alamosa, take Highway 160 east and then 150 north.

    To see around

    • Bachelor Loop
    • North Creek Falls

    Lodging

    We have tested :

    • Alamosa - Super 8 : hotel that looks like all the big chain hotels in the US : spacious, clean.
