Fort Rock State Park - Oregon

What to do if you have little time : a walk on the trail that runs along Fort Rock

Fort Rock is a rock formation that looks like a crater but also a fort. It can be seen from far  because the surrounding landscape is rather flat. To enjoy an overall view, it is not necessary to be at the foot of Fort Rock, the views from the Fort Rock road or the Lake Cabin road being more interesting. Very little crowd.

If you want to see more than the view from afar, there is a loop trail of 1.4 mile that allows to walk around inside the "crater", but also to climb on the edge and have a view overlooking the surrounding plain. If you make the effort to come to Fort Rock, so take the opportunity to do this easy trail.

There are only a few motels in this area. We have tested :

    • Christmas Valley - Desert Inn : classic motel not very welcoming. 58$ a room for 3 in june 2015.
